Cynthia Croot is a director, writer, humanitarian activist, and Head of Performance at U. of Pittsburgh. Since earning her MFA (Columbia University) she won TCG’s Career Development Fellowship in 2007/2009. Her work spans regional and international venues. As Resident Director of the award-winning NYC theatre company 'Conni's Avant Garde Restaurant,' she has staged experimental audience-immersive and site-specific work across the country. In 2002, she toured Suzan-Lori Park’s Venus in South Africa, with benefit U.S. stagings of the play at New York’s Public Theater and Gatehouse featuring Tim Robbins, Joe Morton, Jayne Houdyshell, Andre DeSheilds, Arliss Howard and Kathleen Chalfant. In 2004/5 Croot represented U.S. artists on a five-person delegation to Damascus, Syria, and has since been a guest speaker at the Fadjr Theatre Festival in Tehran. She’s a member of ArtUp – a US, Israeli and Palestinian art initiative, and in 2015, co-founded the collective Ifyoureallyloveme.org.
