Kenneth John Verdugo is an Associate Professor in Scene Design (resident designer and scenic charge) at Alabama State University. Mr. Verdugo has designed for the Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre (2000); Shakespeare Dallas (2008); Cara Mia Theatre Company (2009-2011); The African-American Theatre, AART, TX (2013-2014), among others in multiple US regions. Over the past two years, Mr. Verdugo has received the Meritorious Achievement Award – Excellence in Scene Design – for "The Piano Lesson" (KCACTF). He was also nominated for best scene design (KCACTF Region IV) for "Rent," 2014; and nominated for best design by the Column Awards for "A Lesson before Dying," 2013 (AART, Dallas). Over twenty years, Verdugo has served as a scenic artist with numerous companies, including Opera Pacific, UC Irvine, Walt Disney Entertainment Art, South Coast Repertory, and The Old Globe San Diego, among others. He is currently a regular guest scenic artist with the Alabama Shakespeare Festival.
